Released – October 2nd, 1989

Type – Full-length

Notes

Devastation’s second full-length, Signs of Life, followed the band’s 1987 debut and marked a major leap in speed, aggression and songwriting. Released by Combat Records on October 2, 1989, it captures the Corpus Christi quintet at the boundary between late-’80s thrash and emerging death metal. The nine-song set is driven by rapid, tightly packed riff changes, abrasive twin-guitar attacks and relentless drumming, with Rodney Dunsmore’s clipped, hardcore-tinged shouts riding above the violence. “Tomorrow We Die” later appeared on the 1990 Speed Kills 5 compilation.

Recorded in November 1988 at Goodnight Studios in Dallas, Kerry Crafton handled production and engineering while the band co-produced; mastering was completed at Frankford/Wayne Mastering Labs in New York. The raw but forceful sound keeps the rhythm guitars and thick bass prominent, while the drums and leads intensify the record’s breathless attack. “Fear of the Unknown” provides a comparatively expansive, slower-moving contrast, and “Retribution” and the title track interrupt the speed with heavier, more deliberate passages. Tommy Pons supplied the artwork, with photography by Gus Vasquez. The lyrics focus on death, life and anti-Satanic themes rather than conventional occult imagery.

Evisarize - Evisarize (2019)

Information

ArtistEvisarize

AlbumEvisarize

Label – Independent

Released – October 31st, 2019

Type – Full-length

Additional

Notes

Evisarize is the debut full-length by London black/death/thrash band Evisarize, independently released on October 31, 2019. The digital edition contains twelve tracks totaling 46:05; the band also issued a CD with a sixteen-page lyric and artwork booklet. The recording lineup was Vas (Anthony Vasilou) on vocals, Alex Dickie on lead guitar, Ben Gillam on rhythm guitar, Andy Taylor on bass, and session musician Max Prokopin on drums. No recording studio, producer, engineer, mixing, or mastering credits are documented by Metal Archives, Bandcamp, or the accessible Discogs listing.

The album uses a rapid death/thrash framework built from tightly palm-muted rhythm figures, tremolo-picked passages, abrupt rhythmic breaks, frequent double-bass propulsion, and harsher low-register vocals than conventional thrash. The lead guitar supplies short melodic lines and technically articulated solos over a comparatively dry, riff-forward production. Blast-beat acceleration and blackened melodic phrasing broaden the sound beyond straightforward thrash, while the bass largely reinforces the dense guitar attack.

AlbumDawn of the Ritual

Label – Independent

Released – 1994

Type – Demo

Additional

Notes

Released in January 1994, Dawn of the Ritual is the second demo by the Québec-based Death/Thrash Metal band Apocalyptic Fear. Engineered and recorded by Pierre Rémillard at Peter Pan Studios in Montréal during December 1993, the release marks a shift from the band's initial Thrash Metal origins toward a structured Death Metal sound. The original cassette format contains five tracks with a total runtime of 19:26. The technical sound is characterized by fast tremolo riffing, double-kick drumming patterns, and standard low-register guttural vocals.

The 1994 recording lineup consisted of Jean-François Houle on vocals and guitars, Steeve Daigle on guitars, Sébastien Gagnon on bass, and Sébastien Bussières on drums. Following decades of unavailability outside of the secondary market, the demo was officially reissued in December 2020 by Awakening Records.
