Intestine Baalism's Banquet in the Darkness was released on 7 April 2003 through Blackend (catalog BLACK049CD). The lineup consisted of Seiji Kakuzaki (vocals, guitars), Jiro Itō (guitars), Katsumasa Yoshida (bass), and Hisao Hashimoto (drums), with Kenji Minagawa contributing bass and Hideyuki Yamada drums on "The Planet." Kakuzaki also handled the album's engineering and mixing, while the cover artwork was created by Adrian Wear. The record followed the band's 1997 debut and expanded its approach without altering its core compositional style.

Recorded and produced with a clear, dry guitar mix that emphasizes layered rhythm work over studio effects, Banquet in the Darkness combines Swedish-inspired melodic lead guitar with old-school death metal riff construction, rapid tremolo picking, frequent tempo changes, and tightly locked double-bass drumming. Rather than relying on keyboards or atmospheric production, the album derives its melodic character from harmonized guitar lines interwoven with dense, palm-muted riffing and low growled vocals. Psychedelic Degeneracy is the second EP from Detroit, Michigan four-piece Jesus Wept, released March 11, 2022 on Redefining Darkness Records. It follows Apartheid Redux (2020) — itself a reworking of their self-released 2017 debut Crushing Apartheid — and precedes the White Room Torture split with Trocar (2023). The lineup on this release is C. Colaianni (vocals, lyrics), R. Versace (guitars), N. Barnes (bass, backing vocals), and C. McCoy (drums). Tracked in March 2021 at Bricktop Recording in Chicago by Andy Nelson (ex-Weekend Nachos, Like Rats), the EP was mixed and mastered by Christopher "Zeuss" Harris, whose production credits span Rob Zombie, Hatebreed, and Suffocation. Artwork by Ben DiNino references the collage aesthetic of Carcass's Symphonies of Sickness, foregrounding the band's Heartwork- and Necroticism-era fixation; cover photography by Chloe Whitehouse, layout by Nestor Carrera.

The four tracks — "Surgical Punishment Symmetry," "Dispossession," "Psychedelic Degeneracy," and "God Fetish" — run approximately 16 minutes and sit at the intersection of Heartwork-lineage melodic death metal, death 'n' roll groove, and the bluesier undercurrent of '80s LA heavy metal. Points of comparison include Carcass, Entombed, Gorefest, and contemporary American peers Gatecreeper. Colaianni has described the lyrical thrust as "sex/drug ballads and behavioral observation," concerning what he called "the degeneration of the human spirit and various moral constructs" — surgical horror imagery ("Thrgymmetry" opens with a sampled medical procedure description), substances, and blasphemy recur across the four cuts. The EP received an exclusive premiere at Decibel Magazine and a track premiere at Invisible Oranges, with coverage also from Meat Mead Metal and Toilet ov Hell. Released on CD (limited to 500 copies) and digitally via Redefining Darkness; a later cassette edition appeared through Gurgling Gore (limited to 200, neon pink norelco cases, blue swirl shell). A 12" vinyl compiling both Jesus Wept EPs — Psychedelic Degeneracy on Side A, Apartheid Redux on Side B — was issued in an edition of 250 (125 Aside/Bside blue + hot pink; 125 splatter).

Dead Mother Moon is the debut full-length from San Fernando Valley, California quartet Upon Stone, released January 19, 2024 via Century Media Records. The album follows the band's 2021 EP Where Wild Sorrows Grow (Creator Destructor) and constitutes their major-label debut. The recording lineup comprises Xavier Wahlberg (vocals & bass), Ronny Lee Marks (guitars), Gage Goss (guitars), and Wyatt Bentley (drums). Produced and mixed by Taylor Young at The Pit, Van Nuys, California, the album situates itself squarely within early-to-mid 1990s Gothenburg melodic death metal, drawing immediate comparisons to At the Gates, In Flames, and Dissection, with additional metalcore-adjacent weight that recalls early Shadows Fall. Young's production retains a degree of deliberate grit — audible in the raw vocal attack and buzz-saw guitar tone — while maintaining enough definition to service the dual-lead melodic passages and acoustic interludes that recur throughout. Lyrically the album engages esoteric, nature-rooted, and introspective themes: isolation, ritual, and the search for meaning through darkness, in the vein of late-1990s Scandinavian melodeath lyricism rather than gore-oriented death metal convention. "Paradise Failed" features guest vocals from Brian Fair of Shadows Fall. The album's nine tracks run approximately 31 minutes; the closing track, "Dig Up Her Bones" (a Misfits cover), is designated a bonus track on most editions. Dead Mother Moon was issued on CD, black vinyl, and in a 24-bit/48 kHz digital edition. The release received broadly favourable coverage from underground and specialist press including Dead Rhetoric, No Clean Singing, and Punknews.
