Intestine Baalism's Banquet in the Darkness was released on 7 April 2003 through Blackend (catalog BLACK049CD). The lineup consisted of Seiji Kakuzaki (vocals, guitars), Jiro Itō (guitars), Katsumasa Yoshida (bass), and Hisao Hashimoto (drums), with Kenji Minagawa contributing bass and Hideyuki Yamada drums on "The Planet." Kakuzaki also handled the album's engineering and mixing, while the cover artwork was created by Adrian Wear. The record followed the band's 1997 debut and expanded its approach without altering its core compositional style.

Recorded and produced with a clear, dry guitar mix that emphasizes layered rhythm work over studio effects, Banquet in the Darkness combines Swedish-inspired melodic lead guitar with old-school death metal riff construction, rapid tremolo picking, frequent tempo changes, and tightly locked double-bass drumming. Rather than relying on keyboards or atmospheric production, the album derives its melodic character from harmonized guitar lines interwoven with dense, palm-muted riffing and low growled vocals.
