Notes
Dreams of the Carrion Kind, the sole full-length album by Disincarnate, was released on March 23, 1993 via Roadrunner Records. It is the debut and only studio album from the Tampa, Florida death metal band, emerging near the peak of the early 90s Florida scene. The project was led by guitarist James Murphy, who handled lead/rhythm/acoustic guitars and bass after stints with Death, Obituary, and Cancer, seeking to realize his own songwriting vision with less restricted input. The four-piece core lineup featured Bryan Cegon — vocals (lyrics), Jason Carman — rhythm guitar, and Tommy Viator — drums, with Murphy as primary composer and co-writer alongside Cegon and Carman. It was recorded at The Windings in North Wales, UK and mixed at Amazon Studios in Liverpool, produced and mixed by Colin Richardson with engineering by Pete Coleman. Stylistically rooted in technical, groove-heavy Florida death metal with melodic solos, it aligns with Morbid Angel, Monstrosity and Massacre. Lyrical themes focus on death, agony and torment. Primary release on CD (approx. 47:45), with later expanded editions including the "Soul Erosion" demo tracks; guest vocals by Aaron Stainthorpe (My Dying Bride) on one track and John Walker on another. It holds a respected underground position with consistently strong retrospective reviews for its riffing, technicality and cohesion.
