Additional

Arachnid is an eight-track, 33-minute cassette demo recorded late 1991 at Dogfish Sound studio in Newberg, Oregon by Portland death/thrash quartet Arachnid, self-released on their Wicked Bone imprint in 1992 and self-produced by Paul Nicholls and Roger DeCarlo. Existing entirely outside the commercial metal infrastructure of its era, it operated within tape-trading circuits without label support or press exposure, a circumstance compounded by its release at the precise moment thrash's commercial and underground cycles were both collapsing. Sonically, it inhabits the transitional zone between Bay Area/Teutonic thrash and early USDM — featuring blast beat and tremolo incursions within thrash-structured frameworks, prominently audible bass, subtly technical guitar phrasing, clean intro passages on multiple tracks, and a pipe organ contribution on "Intro / Phantom" — with vocals that phonologically straddle Pat Lind and early David Vincent. Three reissues between 2012 and 2020 (Stormspell, Headsplit, Alone Records) document its retrospective rehabilitation within underground collector culture; the band reformed in 2013 and remains active, but the 1992 cassette stands as the sole document of their original iteration.EOF

Shadowed in the darkened depths lies a twisted form Forged from the blackest seed a nightmare is born Bearing webs of evil set to snatch your soul No escape from deadly wounds Arachnid takes its toll Chorus: Venom injecting into your veins, make you fry Encased in webs of certain doom, hung up high Turn your bones into liquid form, suck you dry Arachnid surgeon of demise, you will die Running down an alleyway nowhere left to hide Deadly fangs of terror grasp you by your eyes Blackened blood embedded turns at your insides Changing form, now reborn, now you are on his side Repeat Chorus ~Lead P. Locked in a box and you can't break free Suffocate in darkness, dead you'll be Claustrophobic, gasping for air Scream your heart out, no one will hear Fears within your brain Psychs calls you insane The things aren't real The burning you feel You're scared to death Scream with all your breath There is no light, you'll die of fright Hanging for your life heights, plunge below One slip of your grasp and down you'll go Sidewalk waits for you to break your bones Head first, swan-dive, sudden depths of your soul Fears within your brain Psychs calls you insane The things aren't real The burning you feel You're scared to death Scream with all your breath There is no light, you'll die of fright Chronic illness rots you from inside Cancer of the brain turns Jekyll into Hyde Heart attack surge feeds your fear to die In your grave maggots eat you where you lie Fears within your brain Psychs calls you insane The things aren't real The burning you feel You're scared to death Scream with all your breath There is no light, you'll die of fright

5. Near Darkness – 05:47 >
Dark soul carried on throughout time Jaws of death, born to the undead kind Night falls and you're about to lose your mind Darkness turning everything inside Changes, screaming for the smell of death Twist your guts until there's only evil left Voices calling to you from beyond Killing all, until the break of dawn Stalking your victims, your prey Feeding on blood, your way Humans are cattle, you slay Lurking in shadows 'till day Blood runs coldly from the dying man Power surge runs through the truly damned Hatred strong, but the sky has begun to glow Puff of smoke, back into the depths you go Men know your ways and special hiding place Ancestors past have led them to a common space Lifting lid, vermin desecrate the dark Death comes, with a stake right through the heart Stalking your victims, your prey Feeding on blood, your way Humans have found your nest Lying in shadows, you rest...near dark Near dark now
6. Reaper Within – 03:39 >
There is an evil voice that's growing Deep inside your twisted brain Telling you the human race is better off shot in the head You fight to find the inside that still is you In your hand is a bloody victim, what did you do? The reaper within, laughter The killings begin, slaughter Cries from fading breath, torture Calling for more death, murder Innocence is everywhere Its' blood is waiting to be spilled Bludgeoned bodies in your path How many have you killed Killing spree is just so easy, killing many then move on The hungry voice behind your eyes Is always thirsty, never done The reaper within, laughter The killings begin, slaughter Cries from fading breath, torture Calling for more death, murder Voices call, twist you to their ways Bodies fall with a flash of the blade Trail of death, M.O. comes clear Tortured mind boiling in hell Face of death staring back at you Dismemberment, branded insane Rage unleashed from a mind deranged Habitual needs, he's in your brain
7. The Witching – 06:05 >
Thrash through the twisted jungle A darkened magic rules this land Skulls are mounted on gnarled poles As you fall into the master hand Black magic tales come to life Consume your soul, his master plan A sickening feeling fills your guts His power drains you, you barely stand Voodoo rules here, all things living and dead Your blood and bones are magic's daily bread His pins and needles...pins and needles torture the doll His power consumes you It consumes you, now you must fall Venom surges through your head Your feet burn as if on fire Snakes crawl across your skin Incantations of hell's desire Scabs remain where sores had bled Your spirit is added to his pyre Men have told of this deadly place You had the balls to call them liar The magic doll is older than time itself In hidden jungle, some distant land He bottles your soul put on his shelf The power he saves, keeps close at hand All that comes near he will consume Ultimate power, just as he planned Warnings are posted, ignored by fools Becoming puppets at his command Voodoo rules here, all things living and dead Your blood and bones are magic's daily bread His pins and needles...pins and needles torture the doll His power consumes you It consumes you, now you must fall
8. Water Burial – 04:50 >
Days ago sea and sky seemed so tame Now the ship is tossed as sirens scream their names Sailing on through a storm belched from hell Demon clouds dance as waves crash over the rail Sails are torn, rain thrashes the men Darkness lurks, never see light again Wicked winds whip ice into their veins Washed overboard, only their bones remain Davie Jones laughs, his heart beats below Torrent grows louder, the storm begins to grow Men are few but still the storm rages on Waves surge higher, all prayers are gone Serpents circle round, eyes glowing red Long lost souls, chanting from the dead Rocks ahead, sure death is known The hull is smashed and all the wreckage is thrown Water burial!
